Role Summary: 

We want someone who is creative, with plenty of initiative, and lots of flair, to lead a small team of video journalists reporting from the United Kingdom for a global client base that includes broadcast and digital media outlets. 

The video news industry is going through a period of significant change, largely driven by technology and the rapidly changing habits of news consumers. The successful candidate will be very customer focused and will be able to tailor content for Reuters’ clients in the growing digital sector as well as our existing broadcast news customers

We are looking for a genuine self-starter, a strong leader, and an effective communicator. She or He will have strong news judgment and will be skilled at visual story telling. 

The role needs a dynamic personality – someone who has strong desk and field producing skills and can spot a good story. 


Major Responsibilities / Accountabilities: 

  • Deliver video content for General News and work closely with other specialist video segments
  • Take charge of all planning, including planning of major events. Ensure all the right elements are in place for the most important stories
  • Oversee news crewing in London. Liaise closely with the BBC on UK coverage 
  • Respond courageously to major breaking news events, acting quickly and with live coverage needs in mind
  • Champion high performers and hold staff accountable for performance


Key Relationships:

Working closely with Reuters Text and Pictures colleagues in the UK bureau, the Senior Producer will be able to plan and produce multimedia content
One key aspect of the job is managing a day-to-day relationship for planning and coverage with the BBC who supply to Reuters their video content from the UK.


Essential Skills and Experience: 

  • Solid experience in agency and-or broadcast television news gathering and production
  • Ability to lead news gathering teams on top stories, making sure team is motivated and enthusiastic
  • Awareness of safety protocols for journalists reporting from the field. 
  • Strong video editing and script writing skills
  • Thorough understanding of the latest digital video technologies for filming, editing, transmitting and sharing
  • Knowledge and commitment to defend Reuters Trust Principles 
  • Ability to quickly and proactively source UGC and other 3rd party content, especially for breaking news 
  • Ability to drive speed and accuracy


Desired Skills and Experience: 

  • Some experience of managing teams working in hostile environments would be an advantage 
  • Experience of reporting/producing television packages, with a flair for visual storytelling in creative ways.
