The Evaluation Systems group of Pearson is a leader in the development and administration of teacher certification tests. We are seeking a dynamic educator to serve as the Scoring Director for our San Antonio, TX office. As an alternative career to classroom teaching, this is an opportunity to work with like-minded individuals who share a passion for education.

The Scoring Director will be responsible for planning, implementing and managing the day-to-day operations of the San Antonio Scoring office. This includes the hiring and ongoing supervision of all staff necessary to meet the strict timelines for ongoing scoring operations.

Responsibilities for this position will require a thorough knowledge of Evaluation Systems established testing and scoring processes, along with the skills to ensure that operations and office growth are well-coordinated, productive and adhere to the established timelines for the scoring of all projects. The Scoring Director will also lead scoring sessions, working to orient, train, calibrate and monitor scorer performance, and ensure consistency and quality throughout the scoring process. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership and interpersonal skills and must be able to plan and coordinate all office activities with a critical focus on operational and fiscal efficiencies. A background in the field of education or educational testing is desirable.

Responsibilities:

  • Planning, oversight and management of the establishment and ongoing operations of the scoring office
  • Collaborate with upper level management and clients on strategic decision-making and goal-setting that supports the planned growth of scoring operations in the office
  • Strategic hiring and ongoing supervision of all scoring office staff
  • Planning and monitoring the day-to-day office activities to ensure on-time, high-quality delivery of customer commitments along with smooth and efficient progress/growth of scoring operations
  • Evaluate operational performance by gathering, analyzing and interpreting available data and metrics
  • Plan and work within the limits of established budgets with a focus on adjustments that promote operational efficiency and profitability
  • Establishment and maintenance of critical quality control processes for all scoring activities
  • Work with other Evaluation Systems personnel to develop and implement scoring models for new and innovative teacher certification assessments, ensuring program success and client satisfaction
  • Facilitate scoring sessions, training scorers and monitoring performance.

Qualifications

Education Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree required (Preference in English, Educational Measurement or Teaching)
  • PhD in English or Education, or other related field, preferred

Job Requirements:

  • 5 years of experience as Director of Operations or equivalent management position required
  • Background in K-12/post-secondary education or educational testing desirable required
  • Practical knowledge of analysis and use of performance/operational metrics and other data required
  • Proven record of leadership, problem-solving and organizational abilities
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities
  • Demonstrated collaboration, facilitation, supervision and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with holistic scoring models a plus
  • Fluency in another language a plus
