The Modern Foreign Languages team produces resources for Secondary-age students and their teachers across a number of languages, but predominantly French, Spanish and German. Responsible for market-leading courses such as Expo, Metro, Mira, Studio, Viva and Stimmt, this is an opportunity to join the industry’s most successful languages team.

You would be working within a matrix team, with people from many different job functions - editorial, design, sales and marketing and external suppliers - coming together to deliver brilliant resources for our MFL list. The role can be based in our Oxford or London offices and you would report into a member of the product management / publishing team.

About the role

We are looking for someone with well-developed editorial and content development skills and a passion for languages education to join our team.You will be part of a friendly and high-performing team, working closely with and supported by that team to understand customer and learner needs and create great resources for the Modern Languages list.

A day in the life of….

During a typical day you might engage in some of the below activities:

Content development

  • Evaluating author content to ensure it is fit for purpose.
  • Working hands-on to develop briefs for freelancers and other suppliers to ensure they manage, edit and proofread materials appropriately.
  • Quality assuring the work of our suppliers to ensure they are hitting our quality benchmarks.
  • Liaising with our digital team to ensure resources are made available on our digital platforms and are checked thoroughly where needed.

Project management

  • Managing the schedules of components you are responsible for, ensuring on-time delivery.
  • Proactively identifying any risks to those schedules and suggesting solutions.
  • Attending and contributing to project team meetings.

Market and customer understanding

  • Getting out into schools, testing sample materials with teachers and learners and making suggestions for improvements.
  • Building your market understanding through contributing to research initiatives with Secondary Modern Languages teachers.
  • Alongside the rest of the team, responding to customer queries about our products and services.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for someone:

  • educated to degree level (or equivalent) in one or more of French, German or Spanish
  • with a genuine interest in the education sector and a passion for languages
  • With a strong editorial tack record, ideally in an educational publishing context
  • with strong organisational / project management skills
  • with an eye for detail and an instinct for what works in the classroom.
