Job Description

Homes England is the government’s new industry leading organisation charged with “fixing the broken housing market” and facilitating the “delivery of sufficient new homes, where they are most needed”.  As we grow and develop in to the organisation that can deliver this significant challenge, we are keen to recruit new talent to help us shape this exciting mission.

We welcome and encourage applications from all of the communities that we serve and have a number of active staff networks that reflect the diversity of our workforce, including a Gender Network, Disability and Carers Network, LGBT Network and BAME network.  Our working environment is dynamic, open, collaborative and increasingly digital.  We are particularly keen to offer people with industry expertise a chance to lead nationally significant projects in a family friendly environment.

The Opportunity:

A key element to changing the way the housing sector operates is to directly intervene in the land market.  We aspire to become one of the leading developers in England and to achieve this we need to find talent that can strengthen and complement our existing land based skills. We are therefore seeking to appoint individuals with proven experience in all elements of the development cycle.

There are permanent roles available across the country at various grades within our Development Teams, Planning Teams, Technical Teams alongside those that will support specific initiatives like Garden Settlements in the South East or the Combined Authority in the West Midlands.

This specific role will be based within the Development team.

Our teams will include those with land acquisition skills alongside those with experience of delivering projects through the development cycle.  They will use their networks, specialist skills and commercial acumen to identify residential sites that would otherwise not come to market.  Once identified the team will ensure sites are acquired and de-risked before arranging their onward sale to private sector developers.

In addition to the teams that will support the delivery of land acquisition, de-risking and disposals, there is a requirement for a specific team based in the South East of the country to assist in the delivery of the emerging Garden Settlements in this area.  The skills required are the same as in the team highlighted above, but the roles will focus exclusively on supporting the emerging preferred locations in terms of creating and delivering a bespoke land acquisition and disposal programme that will help achieve government’s ambitious plans in the Oxford to Cambridge arc.

In the West Midlands, a number of roles will be exclusively focused on supporting the land acquisition and disposal plans associated with the Combined Authority’s ambitious housing growth aspirations.

About Homes England:
Homes England is the new national housing agency, recently launched to play a major role in fixing the housing market and enabling delivery of homes that our country needs.

Homes England brings together land, money, expertise, and planning & compulsory purchase powers, with a clear remit to facilitate delivery of sufficient new homes, where they are most needed, to deliver a sustained improvement in affordability.  We work locally in individual communities to help meet local priorities.

We invest mostly in building new homes, but also in creating employment floor space and other community facilities, in cities, towns and villages across the country. The homes we fund include affordable homes for rent and sale, and homes for rent or sale at market prices. Our investment helps build around half of all new homes built in England each year. It also helps increase local growth by creating jobs and supporting businesses.

We own public land, which we sell to house builders and others. This is one of the ways in which we overcome barriers to development and help increase the speed with which house builders can build new homes.
