Job Description

DWP. Digital with Purpose.

Are you confident operating as a senior leader, engaging and influencing at executive level?

Are you experienced in leading a programme or PMO of a major transformation programme?

Do you want to work on one of the biggest digital transformations in the UK delivering through and with DWP's community of tech experts?

We're looking for a Senior Digital Portfolio Manager to join our DWP Digital community.

DWP is the UK's largest government department. We help people into work and make payments worth over £195bn a year to support some of the most vulnerable people in our society.

Our DWP Digital teams are driving a once-in-a-generation transformation of government services, using fresh ideas and leading-edge technologies to create innovative, scalable and user-centric digital solutions.

You'll help change the face of public services used by nearly every person in the UK, at key moments in their lives. The scale of what we do is extraordinary, and our purpose is unique. We'd love you to join us.

Delivery. Work. Projects.

In DWP our Digital Portfolio Managers make sure that a portfolio of critical digital projects are planned, prioritised and effectively delivered.

You will integrate your portfolio with others within DWP Digital, as well as with Portfolios in other parts of the Department. You'll working closely with delivery teams across the organisation, understanding dependencies, and staying on tip of the 'bigger picture' of DWP and DWP Digital strategy.

Day to day you will:

  • Lead the team in identifying, capturing (using portfolio management tooling) and managing inter-project dependencies and risks.
  • Analyse and identify risks and blockers, using data you have gathered, experience and insight to spot planning and delivery risks, escalating as necessary.
  • Identify and prioritise new work, ensuring it aligns to the department's digital strategy, including identifying and supporting the resolution of resource contention.
  • Provide expert insight and advice during the project setup process, including managing and prioritising demand through the Digital Front Door and ensuring resources are available to deliver.

What skills, knowledge and experience will you need?

  • Experience in a senior portfolio management or senior project management role within a complex Digital or Change environment.
  • Strong leadership and influencing skills, and the ability to build relationships big enough to influence decisions and get the job done
  • Experience of integration planning and dependency management including managing complex internal and external dependencies, identifying and removing blockers.
  • The ability to analyse multiple data sets and deliver complex messages with clarity and authenticity, being persuasive when required.
  • Experience of complex governance regimes, identifying and managing constraints ensuring activities remain aligned to strategic priorities.

Details. Wages. Perks.

You'll join us in one of our brilliant digital hubs in Blackpool, Manchester, London, Leeds or Newcastle, whichever is most convenient for you.

We also have all the tools and tech we need to enable our people to work and collaborate flexibly. We work a hybrid model - you'll be in the office about 40% of the time, with 60% home working.

We offer competitive pay of up to £64,585 (London), £59,589 (National)

There is also an additional Digital Allowance of up to £6,798 available to exceptional candidates.

You'll be eligible for a brilliant civil service pension with employer contributions worth over 27%.

You'll get a generous leave package starting at 26 days, plus all the usual bank holidays, and the option to take extra days off on flexi leave.

We also have a broad benefits package built around your work-life balance which includes:

  • Flexible working, flexi hours and flexi days

  • Sports and social activities
  • Working in an award-winning environment and culture
