Job Title: Senior Finance Analyst – UK Financial Reporting

Department: Finance

Reports to: PFS Manager UK Financial Control & BPM

Summary of role:

The UK Financial Control team is responsible for all UK month-end close activities, group reporting and balance sheet control. The team is also responsible for end-to-end process control and, where necessary, process redesign and improvement across the UK FC, PFS and BPO teams.

The main responsibilities of theSenior Finance Analyst – UK reportingwill be:

  • Working with BPO and PFS on Month End and year-end close activities, including Prime submissions to the Group consolidation team
  • Managing reporting for all UK businesses
  • Working with the PFS and BPO teams to ensure agreed activities are completed effectively and on time
  • Issue identification, management and resolution as it applies to financial and management reporting
  • Project work as part of the wider Pearson finance transformation

Main activities/responsibilities:

  • Ownership of P&L reporting to ensure reports are prepared and presented efficiently and consistently at both consolidated and management reporting levels via Smartview, PRIME or Delphi (these are the consolidation tools used in the UK business)
  • Ensure P&L reporting reconciles with Prime and Delphi reports and is complete for all UK entities
  • Ownership of monthly Prime loads, supporting schedules and any subsequent queries that arise.
  • Responsible for ensuring Prime and Delphi mappings for the UK Business are correct and consistent and working with the Group team to make required adjustments and corrections
  • Review and sign-off of monthly ERP to Prime reconciliation
  • Ensure that processes and controls are in place to ensure that there is accuracy and integrity of financial information
  • Maintenance of effective system of internal controls including compliance with all internal and external requirements, e.g. Sarbanes-Oxley, internal and external audit
  • Support of wider Financial Control RTR team in month and year end activities
  • The jobholder will also be responsible for the delivery of ad-hoc projects and reporting requirements of the wider Financial Control RTR team.

Qualifications and experience required:

  • Qualified with demonstrable experience in management (or financial) accounting role
  • Fluent English speaker
  • Experience of using some, or all, of our core finance systems: Oracle R12, Prime, Delphi and Smartview
  • Experience of working in a multi-national matrix organization.
  • Strong understanding of materiality and ability to prioritize across competing agendas
  • Ability to identify business risks and implementation of tactics to mitigate
  • Understanding of financial control, business performance management and process optimization and experience of working in more than one of these areas.
  • An understanding of putting internal financial results into an external market context.
  • Awareness of multiple business models and experience of working with more than one.
  • Understanding of finance specialist areas: tax, treasury, M&A, compliance, corporate governance and ability to utilize proper judgement to involve them as necessary.
