Senior Group Accounting Analyst

Main purpose / objectives of the role:

Assistance with the Group’s financial consolidation process including specific responsibility for certain consolidation processes and regulatory returns.

Preparation of analysis to support the Group’s external and internal reporting and liaison with the Group’s operating companies to review and investigate reported data and transactions and to provide advice and guidance on accounting requirements.

Main activities / responsibilities

  • Management of the Group’s inter-company accounting, ensuring balances and transactions are agreed and eliminated.
  • Identification and investigation of transactions involving inter-company profit including managing the Group’s profit in stock eliminations and investigating and tracking other transactions which generate inter-company profit.
  • Processing and collating support for consolidation journals including relevant supplementary disclosure
  • Review of balance sheet movements to ensure correct treatment of transactions including those relating to acquisitions and disposals.
  • Analysis of non-operating income statement and cash flow items arising from acquisitions and disposals and other non-trading transactions. Investigation of reported non-operating data with operating companies and provision of guidance on appropriate reporting treatment ahead of or following significant transactions
  • Responsibility for the reporting process for certain associates and joint ventures and specialist operating companies. Assistance with the reporting for Head Office based holding and treasury companies.
  • Responsibility for preparation of regulatory returns for national statistics and other similar requirements. Assistance with collation of reporting for bank covenants, Country by Country reporting for tax filings and insurance and other data requests.
  • Preparation of scoping reports and other detailed analysis for auditors.
  • Preparation of analysis to support the production of the external financial statements including analysis for notes to the accounts and other relevant disclosures.
  • Maintenance of documentation relating to controls and performance of specific controls related to the external reporting process including casting and cross referencing of financial statements.
  • Provision of general support to operating companies on the Group’s consolidation system (PRIME) and procedures.
  • Assistance in defining and testing new system requirements for the Group’s consolidation systems.
  • Ad hoc analysis and support for users of the Group consolidation system

Qualifications and experience

  • Graduate with a good academic background and a recognised accountancy qualification.
  • Some relevant Group consolidation experience preferred.
  • Good knowledge of IFRS and other reporting requirements.
  • Understanding of financial control processes and functions.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate with both finance and non-finance professionals.
  • A self-starter who is motivated to work under own initiative when required.
  • Ability to maintain a strong focus on results and outcomes and prioritise work effectively.
  • Advanced user of Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel.
  • Experience using Oracle and Hyperion systems tools viewed favourably.
  • Experience in a service delivery environment and strong stakeholder management skills preferable.

About the team

The PFS Financial Reporting & Control team is responsible for UK and North America month-end close activities, financial reporting, balance sheet and P&L control. The team is also responsible for end-to-end process control and, where necessary, process redesign and improvement across our UK and offshore teams.

The role will work closely with the Group Reporting team in London who are responsible for the delivery and integrity of external financial reporting, in support of the Group’s UK and US listings, and internal financial reporting to the Board and senior management. It establishes the Group’s accounting policies, manages and develops the Group’s financial consolidation systems and determines appropriate financial controls for the consolidation and reporting of group data. The team provides accounting guidance to the Group’s businesses in respect of acquisitions and disposals and other specialist technical accounting areas and manages the accounting for the parent company and the investment and treasury companies located at the head office.
