Job Description

Thomson Reuters IFR Markets, a provider of real time market commentary and analysis of fixed income, foreign exchange and related derivatives markets, is looking for an experienced rates analyst with a strong background in the European sovereign complex.

A Senior Rates Strategist is sought to join a seasoned team of market analysts whose main focus is on the European Sovereign complex, including the swaps and futures markets.

Prime responsibilities of this position include delivering compelling market commentary and analysis on an intra-day basis in a fast-paced market environment.  With this, strong writing skills are essential.  The successful candidate also needs to have an established network of contacts within the institutional/dealer money-market marketplace.

Depending on the candidate’s professional experience the position may include management responsibilities as well.

Requirements: The ideal candidate would have substantial market experience either in European sovereign market sales, trading, brokerage, research or some related capacity, typically at a commercial or investment bank, brokerage firm, hedge fund or mutual fund.  The candidate will provide compelling, consistent, real-time commentary on the European sovereign markets (including funding, swaps and futures) and overlapping connections with other fixed income markets and particularly US treasuries. The candidate should be versed in both technical analysis and economic fundamental factors that drive global macro trading and be able to define those factors in a concise and timely manner in reports on our products. The candidate should be able to provide those updates on a consistent and regular basis throughout the trading session.

The analyst should be well versed in market behavior, as well as being familiar with key economic data and releases. The candidate must also have contacts in the marketplace in order to gain information on flows, rumors and expectations that impact market trading.

Required Education:  College degree, an MBA and/or CFA is a plus.

Desired Skills:

  • Background in European sovereign sales and trading preferred
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel
