The Regulation Team

The Regulation Team is part of the Business Improvement and Regulation Directorate, within the Quality Standards and Governance business unit. We are responsible for ensuring that Pearson is aware of, and meets, its regulatory obligations. We act as a primary point of contact on regulatory and governance matters for the business, qualifications regulators and other key stakeholders in education and qualifications, both in the UK and internationally. The team has a wide-reaching remit with responsibility for appeals, regulatory policy, safeguarding, endorsement of publications and risk management and monitoring.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and review Pearson’s framework of regulatory policies
  • Be the central point of communication for regulatory policies as it applies to qualification and associated developments, providing support and advice as necessary
  • Manage the Regulatory Policy Group, including the preparation of papers and reports for comment and approval and ensure follow up actions are agreed and completed in a timely way
  • Ensure policies are signed off by the Senior Leadership Team according to the agreed schedule
  • Ensure that policies are published, internally and externally, according to agreed communication plans.
  • Maintain the team’s intranet page to ensure material is up to date and accurate
  • Ensure policies and related documents are provided as required to regulatory bodies
  • Produce reports and analysis for senior management regarding customer access and feedback for regulatory policies
  • Report regularly to the Head of Regulation and, where appropriate, to the Director of Business Improvement and Regulation, and other relevant colleagues, about issues arising from regulatory policies.
  • Contribute to the maintenance of the company regulatory risk log, including the identification of issues, which escalates risks to appropriate governance groups for further action to improve regulatory business practices
  • Support the successful and timely completion of the annual Statements of Compliance to the UK Regulators, including the uploading of necessary documents to regulators as necessary.
  • Respond to requests for exceptional awards, late registration/certification.
  • Support the Regulation Team by providing advice and guidance relating to Tone of Voice and effective communications, as necessary
  • Provide support to Regulation Managers as required.
  • Represent Pearson in a variety of internal and external forums as required.
  • Undertake the lead or support of specific projects as directed by senior management.
  • Support the broader work of Business Improvement and Regulation by working across the various functions of the division, including investigations into cases of appeal, malpractice, maladministration and breaches of security, Business Continuity and Data Protection, when required to do so.

  • Education to degree level, or above, or equivalent
  • An understanding of the education and qualifications regulatory and policy landscape
  • IT literate; competent in Word, Excel, Powerpoint
  • Experience in a role requiring influencing at a senior level.
  • Experience of producing formal documents for key stakeholders and senior managers.


  • Experience of working in education in a teaching, policy or administrative capacity
  • Experience of working with Google/cloud based IT packages

Working Arrangements

  • The role is a 13 month fixed term contract, based in the London office at 80 Strand.
  • 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday
  • Salary - Circa £33,000
