Job Description

Senior Software Engineer (Javascript, node.js, Python, AWS or Azure, DynamoDB, Kubernetes): up to £64,656, 27% pension, 60% home working, flexi time

We're looking for outstanding Senior Software Engineers to join our community of experts in DWP Digital. Together we're transforming how DWP works, and the services we provide to millions of people.

Our team works mainly with AWS on cloud infrastructure. The work we do enables DWP's data engineers and data scientists to pull together disparate data sources, extract and securely allow them to build models based on this information.

We've got early users in Fraud and Prevention. We're working with them to highlight potential issues with claims, and we'll take that learning and use it to improve processes for other areas, adding more data feeds to the pool.

Right now, our focus is building the infrastructure for this project, but the team have also worked on frontend applications for form validation and data visualisations and there's loads of exciting stuff to come in the future.

This is one project of many. Our Engineering challenge is off-the-scale massive and complex:

• We have 1bn lines of code in over 12,000 code repos and 90+ programming languages.
• We run around 294 days' worth of testing every day through automation.
• Our APIs receive 173 million requests, and we spin up 280,000 AWS servers every month.
• Over 22 million people access our services daily. We're one of the biggest payers in Europe with over £195bn payments made annually.

Your Skills / Our Stack

• Open source technologies like JavaScript, Node.js, Python, Java
• Cloud-based environments like AWS and Azure.
• SQL and noSQL database applications such as Postgres, DynamoDB, and MongoDB
• Containerisation - tools such as Docker and Kubernetes. (Training provided)
• Robust automated test suite to support a continuous deployment environment.
• APIs, RESTful services, and Microservice Architectures.

We offer competitive pay up to £64,656.
