DWP. Digital with Purpose.

The Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) is responsible for welfare, pensions and child maintenance policy. As the UK's biggest public service department, it administers the State Pension and a range of working age, disability and ill health benefits to around 20 million claimants and customers. We deliver products, services, support and payments to people at key times in their lives.

This role is within Universal Credit (UC), one of the highest profile digital transformation programmes in the world. It is currently used by over 5 million claimants and around 30K operational colleagues.

We are passionate about making sure those colleagues focus on helping people back to work where they can, while offering the right kind of support where they can't.

Making sure that claimants can manage their finances and are paid the right amount on time.

Projects with People in mind.

We are looking for experienced User Researchers who can plan, design and carry out research activities with users that can help our design teams get a deep understanding of the people that use UC and how we can better meet their needs.

At senior level this research helps shape our problem statements and helps us to design a UC service that works well for our users and achieves policy intent.

You will be an experienced practitioner who is capable of planning and leading user research activities across large and complex projects and services.

An expert in problem definition and selecting appropriate research, you will be creating strategies to tackle issues and understand user needs.

We need you to:

  • Help champion a user-centred, evidence-based approach to formulating strategy and vision.
  • Manage and coach others, aiding in their development.
  • Work with agile teams to develop and advocate appropriate research strategies.
  • Build user centred practices, advocating for user centred approaches to research.
  • Develop recommendations based on a variety of research outcomes.
  • Be accountable for the end-to-end delivery of research.
  • Conduct user research using a range of research methods.
  • Advocate for inclusive research principles.

Details. Wages. Perks.

You'll join our team based at our digital hub in Westminster, London.

In return for your skills, we offer salary up to £64,656 per annum.

We have all the tools and tech we need to enable our people to work flexibly in a hybrid model, with home working about 60% of the time.
