Who we are

The Design, User Experience and Media department is a dedicated, supportive and knowledgeable group of people who work collaboratively and creatively to deliver outstanding qualification and learning resources and services for the UK Schools and Colleges market. Within the department, we have a team dedicated to the creative design for marketing materials and campaigns, working across all print and digital formats. The senior visual designer role sits within this team.

What we are looking for

We are looking for a talented creative and pro-active person, passionate about design, and marketing products that can make a difference in people’s lives, with the drive to learn new skills as technology changes and opportunities arise. A key team player, dependable and supportive, they will be part of a small very flexible and highly collaborative team.Directed and supported by the marketing design manager the senior visual designer is responsible for their own diverse portfolio, as both a hands on creative lead, and by art directing freelancers and junior colleagues as necessary.They will have the opportunity to deliver high quality visual design for all types of marketing collateral, with a strong bias towards digital output. A keen aptitude for that area is essential.

Day to day you will

  • Lead on the delivery of high quality visual design for marketing in line with industry standards.This could include anything from campaign creative concepts, guidelines and templates to individual items like emails, social media, web banners, infographics, exhibition displays, postcards, posters and brochures.
  • Art-direct junior colleagues or freelancers, ensuring that work is of the quality expected and technically accurate
  • Develop and apply relevant brand guidelines creating a consistent customer experience.
  • Apply accessibility guidelines as necessary to enable the most inclusive customer experience.
  • Work with key stakeholders and colleagues to improve the customer experience via testing and refining concepts in response to feedback.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with the rest of the team and the Marketing department.
  • Ensure best working practices and processes are followed.

You should be

  • Willing to take responsibility, take action and where appropriate, mentor and lead
  • Self motivated, flexible, open to new opportunities and learning
  • Excellent communication skills as acollaborator, team-player, and negotiator
  • Accurate, thorough, well organised, used to scheduling and managing projects and able to follow and initiate processes to maintain a smooth workflow in a busy team
  • Willing to support your colleagues when necessary as well as managing your own creative projects
  • Experienced in working with freelancers and art-directing

You should have

  • Design degree or equivalent, and a minimum of at least 2-3 year’s relevant industry experience, preferably 4-5.
  • A relevant and up to date portfolio, viewable online. This could include self initiated work as well as industry projects.
  • Excellent working knowledge of the latest Adobe Indesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat
  • Experience of After effects or Animate.
  • Microsoft Office knowledge
  • A good understanding of HTML and CSS, experience of email design is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with basic web CMS’s.

Where we are

The team is based in Oxford, however there is the possibility of working from the London office where part of the rest of the department is based, with travel between sites when necessary.
