Job Description

As a Strategy and Experience Designer in the People & Culture community, you will shape our Future of Work strategy, and design experiences for our colleagues using Design Thinking / Human Centred Design methodologies. Using design research tools, you will gain deep understanding of the needs of our people across the employee lifecycle, ensuring we design experiences that feel uniquely Nationwide and strengthen our employee value proposition. You will help drive and embed a culture of experimentation and innovation through upskilling colleagues on Design Thinking.

This role is within the People and Culture community, which is responsible for supporting our people and ensuring we create a culture and environment to enable the Society’s objectives of building a stronger, kinder and greener society, nationwide.  

This is a new role within the People Strategy team, who analyse external trends and use colleague insight to reimagine the future of work and design strategies, experiences and communications that make Nationwide a distinctive place to work.

Salary- Up to £35,000

What you’ll be doing

You will work as part of the innovative and forward-thinking People Strategy team, helping to design and shape our future of work strategy and translating it into tangible experiences for our employees. With a finger on the pulse of the latest future of work trends and using design research, you will identify opportunities to improve and design experiences, services and propositions for our colleagues. You will work on a variety of high impact projects, driving cultural transformation across the organisation.

Drawing on strong storytelling and communication skills, you will help translate ideas and concepts into tangible end-to-end services and experiences (through business cases and proposals, journey and experience maps, service blueprints and prototypes).

You will cultivate the culture of innovation and experimentation across the People & Culture community by inspiring and educating our colleagues on Design Thinking. This includes helping establish the Design Academy for the community.

About you

  • Likely to have a degree or similar qualifications in relevant fields such as Service Design, UX / UI Design, Behavioural Science or related discipline; or equivalent knowledge gained through experience in either a design agency, a consultancy, an HR role or in a role with relevant transferrable skills and experience
  • Experience in some of the following areas: Design Thinking, Service Design or Strategy and Innovation
  • A genuine interest in the future of work, culture transformation and employee experience (EX)
  • Creative and strategic mindset and passion to join the dots, innovate and come up with new concepts and solutions to complex problems
  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills with ability to communicate and articulate ideas, concepts and designs to a wide range of stakeholders
  • Visual design skills and ability to create impactful presentations is essential
  • Experience in planning and leading engaging workshops with multiple stakeholders
  • Experience in conducting user research through a variety of methods (e.g. interviews, ethnography, observations, user diaries etc.) and working with data to analyse and interpret insights
  • Ability to organise data into journey / experience maps and service blueprints, create prototypes and translate concepts and ideas into business cases and proposals
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills and ability to manage and own multiple competing priorities and deliverables
  • Proficiency with design and prototyping tools (e.g. InDesign, Adobe, Sketch) and online project tools (e.g. Miro, Mural) is a plus
