In 2016, BP rolled out its best ever fuels, Ultimate with ACTIVE technology, in our global markets. They were developed over five years by BP engineers and scientists in the UK and following the success in 14 countries our Brand is now entering new growth markets. Working in the products team you will get the chance to work with marketing and legal in different countries to develop claims.

The primary purpose of the role is to lead a team of technologists to deliver projects that design and develop new fuel products and test methods. The role holder will also lead platform delivery that provides differentiation opportunities for new fuel products, from new test method development. The new products and methods are required to meet the changing demands of global markets and to provide opportunities to differentiate the performance of BP's products from its competitors.

Key accountabilities expected from the role:

  • Lead delivery of a portfolio of development/investigation projects through effective planning, execution and documenting test programmes so that key milestones are delivered on time and on budget;
  • Building effective networks with both subject matter experts and operational staff within the technology function to facilitate the delivery of projects, these networks include product: testing, deployment, quality, stewardship, intellectual assets, research and compliance
  • Building effective networks outside of the technology function to include: suppliers of goods and services, technical consultancies, OEMs, BP marketing, BP Legal
  • Providing team and technical leadership by coaching and directing the work of the development team
  • Develop and share expertise to facilitate continuous improvement within the Development Team
  • Manage intellectual property associated with the programmes - secrecy agreements, patents etc

Key challenges faced on the role:

Due to the global nature of the business, the role is required to interact with and influence geographically dispersed and culturally diverse stakeholder groups. The team may also have a multinational composition.
The role requires the ability to innovate and solve complex problems but also the discipline to be able to organise the team to deliver to exacting time-lines and budgets.

Education, Knowledge & Experience:

  • Degree or equivalent in Auto/Mech.Engineering or related engineering discipline.
  • Good knowledge of automotive engineering.
  • Demonstrated track record in delivering projects focused on product development, engineering or research.
  • Proven experience of fuel development, automotive engineering development or fuels product research.
  • Demonstrate a collaborative approach to working.
  • Demonstrated strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Provide evidence of designing novel work programmes.
