Occupational Therapy Technical Instructor – CAMHS

An opportunity has arisen for an Occupational Therapy Technical Instructor to join St Andrew's Child and Adolescent Mental Health (CAMHS) Pathway, Northampton. The CAMHS Pathway is located within FitzRoy House, the largest adolescent secure service in Europe. This has been designed to meet the complex needs of adolescents with psychiatric, social, psychological and emotional difficulties some in addition to a developmental disability

You will work alongside registered Occupational Therapists and another Technical instructor across two units; one for males with autism and one for females with developmental disabilities. Duties and responsibilities will include planning and undertaking, as directed by the Occupational Therapists, a selection of individual and group treatments using purposeful activity to enhance and maintain the young person’s skills. This includes facilitating a series of leisure pursuits such as arts and crafts and sports activities suitable for young people, facilitating a range of vocational skills such as gardening, and facilitating a range of personal and domestic daily living tasks, such as cooking and self-care tasks, with the young people in order to increase their level of independence.

You should have:
  • An understanding of Occupational Therapy
  • Good Team Player and sound communication skills
  • The ability to work under pressure
  • The ability to build a rapport with this patient group
  • Organisational skills and an ability to take initiative and compete delegated tasks
  • Ability to lead activity groups under supervision
