Birmingham (Cambridge would be considered) This is a national role with responsibility for supporting the design, development and implementation of the firm's learning and development programmes.

Job Description

The scope of the role encompasses the non-legal learning and development needs of lawyers, non-solicitor fee earners, trainees and business and executive support services staff across the firm's six locations.


Some key tasks are as follows, and the full role is detailed in the role profile.


  •  To identify learning and development needs driven by the firm's strategy and by analysis of data gathered from discussions and the internal performance review system.
  • To support the development of the firm's annual learning and development plans, and continually enhance programmes to meet evolving needs. In particular, this role would be responsible for:
  • development and implementation of the 0-3 PQE structured training programme
  • our new talent management programme for junior lawyers
  • the evolving programme of training for our trainees (as prescribed by the Solicitors Regulation Authority - the SRA)


**The team**

Reporting to the Head of Learning and Development, who in turn reports to the KLD Director, the Learning & Development Manager is a member of the Knowledge, Learning and Development (KLD) team.  Administrative support is provided by the learning and development senior assistant.


The role requires close liaison with many people, in particular the graduate recruitment manager, professional support lawyers (PSLs), IT trainers, marketing, national service line leaders, business service heads, regulatory bodies and external providers.

  •  Experience of training and developing others within a fast paced, intellectually rigorous environment (professional service firm experience preferred)
  • Excellent presentation, training and facilitation skills
  • Well-developed personal and project management skills
  • Strong interest and desire to develop self
  • Interested in innovation and new ways to learn



  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • High levels of computer literacy and competence
  • An ability to get things done by exercising influence and gaining buy in to new initiatives
  • Strong networker, able to build relationships with people at all levels across the business and externally
  • Able and willing to travel frequently to all Mills & Reeve LLP offices and other sites within the UK
  • Ability to work independently and manage a broad workload
