Job Description

In an increasingly uncertain world, the Ministry of Defence (MOD) has a critical role to play in delivering the Government’s most important role – to defend our country and keep our people safe. The threats to national safety and security are evolving rapidly, becoming more complex and diverse in nature. We must adapt and innovate to stay ahead. Set within the MOD, Defence Medical Services (DMS) provides an occupationally focused primary healthcare service, encompassing primary medical and dental care, occupational health, public health, force preparation, travel medicine, mental health and rehabilitation, and some outsourced services. DMS is responsible for developing medical operational capability and generating medically qualified personnel to support operational tasks.

The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Director General, the new Transformation/Programme Director will be a key driver in enabling DMS to deliver one of the most ambitious transformation programmes in the UK to further improve quality, deployability and value for money. Our aim is to make DMS the best place in the MoD to work. This is an exceptional opportunity to redefine how healthcare is delivered to Army, Navy and RAF personnel across the globe – a transformation that will impact over 6,700 specialist clinicians, and over 13,400 staff.

The successful candidate will be at the heart of shaping and delivering over £500m worth of programmes to achieve improved quality, efficiency and significant recurrent savings. The new Transformation/Programme Director will demonstrate a track record of leading large programmes of change across organisational boundaries and involving multiple stakeholders, as well as bringing the capability to inspire entire workforces on a journey of modernisation in the context of an environment of ambiguity and complexity. Strong interpersonal, influencing and communication skills are essential, as is the capability to role model positive values and behaviours.
