LGBT-inclusive organisations you should know about

This International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia, our Information Service wanted to highlight some of the organisations we work with that are doing an incredible work to support or provide a safe space for lesbian, gay, bi and trans people.

The list is far from exhaustive, but we hope it'll help you to know that these organisations are available if you or your loved ones ever need help. If you're looking for something specific, feel free to search our UK database by postcode or get in touch with our Info Service.

Bi Survivors Network - the only support resource for bi+ survivors in the UK

BSN are a support network for bi people, running bi-weekly virtual chats where bi survivors can find support, solidarity and community.

Broken Rainbow – a domestic violence helpline

Broken Rainbow offers a Domestic Violence Helpline to LGBT people, providing confidential support to all members of the LGBT community, their family, friends, and agencies supporting them.

Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (FFLAG) – for friends and family

FFLAG is a national voluntary organisation and charity dedicated to supporting parents and their lesbian, gay, bi and trans children.

GALOP – for hate crime or criminal justice questions

If you’ve experienced hate crime, sexual violence or domestic abuse, GALOP’s there for you. They also support lesbian, gay, bi, trans and queer people who have had problems with the police or have questions about the criminal justice system.

Gendered Intelligence – for trans young people

Gendered Intelligence delivers art programmes and creative workshops to trans youth across the UK

LGBT Foundation – for advice & support on health and other issues

The LGBT Foundation support LGBT people to increase their skills, knowledge and self-confidence to improve and maintain their health and wellbeing.

LGBT+ Switchboard - the LGBT+ helpline

Switchboard is an LGBT+ helpline – a place for calm words when you need them most. They’re here to help you with whatever you want to talk about. Nothing is off limits and conversations are 100% confidential.

Mermaids - support for trans children and young people

Being trans can be isolating both for the person and the family who support them. Reach out to Mermaids who can put you in touch with others, make new friends and share experiences.

Opening Doors – social opportunities for older LGBT+ people

Opening Doors is the biggest charity providing information and support services specifically for older Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans (LGBT+) people in the UK.

RISE – for domestic abuse survivors

RISE is an independent charity that helps people affected by domestic abuse. If you identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and you are experiencing domestic abuse you can contact their LGBT+ team through their helpline.

TELL MAMA - measuring anti-Muslim attacks

TELL MAMA is an LGBT-inclusive organisation that supports victims of anti-Muslim hate and is a public service which also measures and monitors anti-Muslim incidents.

The Outside Project – for LGBT people with experience of homelessness

The Outside Project are LGBTIQ+ colleagues, friends and activists who work in the homeless sector and have lived experience of homelessness and the unique, complex issues the community faces.

UKLGIG – for asylum seekers and refugees

The UK Lesbian & Gay Immigration Group (UKLGIG) supports LGBTQI+ people through the asylum and immigration process. They provide emotional support for LGBTQI+ asylum seekers to help improve their mental health and reduce isolation, as well as providing legal information and advice.

 

BAME/People of colour
AZ Hub – social space for queer, trans, intersex people of colour (QTIPoC) in London

This is a social space for QTIPoC that hosts workshops, screenings, art display, discussions, performances and more.

Rainbow Noir – a support group for queer PoC in Manchester

Rainbow Noir is a group established for and by queer people of colour in Manchester. The group is a space for socialising, discussions, activism, community organising and ensuring a presence so that queer people of colour’s voices are heard in Manchester. Get involved in Europe’s largest celebration for African, Asian, Middle Eastern, Latin American and Caribbean-heritage LGBTQ people.

Hidayah – a nationwide organisation for LGBTQI+ Muslims in the UK
Imaan – the UK’s leading LGBTQ Muslim charity
Keshet works to ensure a world where no one has to choose between their LGBT+ and Jewish identity

 

Regional & local
Biphoria – the UK’s longest running bi organisation in Manchester

Since 1994, they organise meetings at least once every month, providing a space to meet other bi people, share stories and make new friends.

Intercom Trust – an LGBT community resource in the South West

The Intercom Trust is a lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans community resource in Cornwall, Devon, Dorset and Somerset.

MESMAC – for sexual health services & counselling in the North East

Yorkshire MESMAC provides a range of services throughout Leeds, Bradford, Wakefield, Rotherham, York, North Yorkshire and Hull – including confidential HIV testing and counselling.

Survivors Network – for LGBT survivors of sexual violence and abuse in Brighton

Survivors’ Network is the Rape Crisis Centre for Sussex, based in Brighton. If you have experienced sexual violence, the Survivor’s Network can offer help, support, advice and counselling.

Unique – support for disabled LGBTQ+ people in London

Unique LGBT is a group which meets monthly in King's Cross and central London, UK. Unique is run by disabled LGBTQ+ people, for disabled LGBTQ+ people.

Scotland, Wales & Northern Ireland
LGBT Health & Wellbeing – for Scotland

LGBT Health and Wellbeing is a community organisation that works to improve the health, wellbeing and lived experiences of LGBT people and communities in Scotland. They provide an LGBT Helpline for Scotland, direct support services in Edinburgh and Glasgow, and programme of social events to reduce isolation and social exclusion for LGBT people aged over 50, LGBT families, and trans communities, among other groups.

LGBT Youth - for LGBT young people in Scotland

LGBT Youth Scotland play a leading role in the provision of quality youth work to LGBTI young people aged 13-25 across Scotland, promoting their health and wellbeing.

Rainbow Bridge – for Wales

Rainbow Bridge is a Victim Support run service that specifically supports victims of domestic abuse who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender. They provide the only specialised service in Wales that can provide face to face support that is victim-led and individually tailored to meet individual needs.

Rainbow Project – for Northern Ireland

The Rainbow Project offer Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans support across Northern Ireland including counselling, sexual health, advocacy and HIV awareness.
